Careers at Sharp

Build a remote career in
healthcare billing and practice operations.

Sharp runs billing, credentialing and patient support for mental health practices in four states. We hire people who are careful with the work and kind with patients, and we train them to our standard.

Certification Program

Sharp Healthcare Operations Certification

A paid training program built from the same playbooks our own team uses every day. Everyone starts with the same core modules, then follows the track for the role they want: patient coordinator, medical biller, or practice manager.

Certified graduates join our hiring pool. As Sharp brings on new practices, we interview from that pool first and place people with the practices we support.

How it works

  1. Apply

Pick a track and tell us about yourself. You can also apply for a scholarship. We confirm the fit before you pay anything.

  2. Train

Complete the shared core modules, then your track's modules, practice sessions and capstone.

  3. Get certified

Pass your track's exam and receive your Sharp certificate.

  4. Get considered for placement

Certified graduates join our hiring pool. When a client practice needs support, we interview from that pool first.

Curriculum

One shared core, then a track for your role.

Every track starts with the same four core modules. If you finish one track and want another later, you only take the new track's modules.

Core modules

Shared by every track
  1. The revenue cycle, end to end

How a session turns into a payment: eligibility, coding, claims, remittance and patient balances, with a focus on mental health practices.

  2. Insurance, benefits & authorizations

Verifying eligibility and benefits, deductibles and coinsurance, prior authorizations, and what to check before the first appointment.

  3. HIPAA & patient privacy

What counts as PHI, identity checks before discussing an account, minimum necessary access, and how to spot a privacy risk early.

  4. Patient customer care

Phone, email and portal etiquette, calm and caring conversations with patients in distress, and de-escalation.

Track

Patient Coordinator

Core + 4 track modules · About 6 weeks at 8–10 hours a week · $247 founding cohort (then $297)

  1. Front office & scheduling operations

Intake, scheduling templates, waitlists, no-show and cancellation policies, and keeping clinicians' calendars full.

  2. Answering patient billing questions

Explaining a statement or EOB in plain language, handling balance disputes, setting up payment plans and knowing when to escalate.

  3. Collecting patient payments

Copays at check-in, cards on file, statements, payment plans and posting what patients pay, so balances never pile up.

  4. Capstone & certification exam

Run a simulated front office for one week: intake calls, schedule changes, benefits checks and patient balance questions. Then pass the written exam.

Good fit for

  • Customer service or call center professionals moving into healthcare
  • Medical receptionists and front-desk staff
  • Bilingual English and Spanish speakers who enjoy talking with people

Track

Medical Biller

Core + 4 track modules · About 8 weeks at 8–10 hours a week · $297 founding cohort (then $397)

  1. Claims & denials

CPT codes and modifiers used in behavioral health, what makes a claim clean, and how to read and fix a denial.

  2. Payment posting & A/R management

Posting ERAs correctly, adjustments vs. patient balances, secondary claims, spotting underpayments, and working the A/R report every week.

  3. Working with client practices

Being the practice's point of contact: requests, response times, monthly reporting and keeping owners informed.

  4. Capstone & certification exam

Work a simulated practice account from charge entry to collections: code, post, fix denials and report to the owner. Then pass the written exam.

Good fit for

  • Detail-oriented people who like numbers and solving puzzles
  • Patient coordinators ready to move into the back office
  • Billers from other specialties learning mental health billing

Track

Practice Manager

Core + 6 track modules · About 10 weeks at 8–10 hours a week · $397 founding cohort (then $497)

  1. Front office & scheduling operations

Intake, scheduling templates, waitlists, no-show and cancellation policies, and keeping clinicians' calendars full.

  2. Provider onboarding & credentialing basics

What it takes to add a clinician: licenses, NPI, CAQH, payer enrollment timelines and what the practice can bill meanwhile.

  3. Leading the practice team

Hiring front-desk and admin staff, writing SOPs, weekly check-ins, scorecards and handling performance issues fairly.

  4. Practice numbers & billing oversight

The KPIs that show if a practice is healthy (collections, no-shows, A/R days, denial rate) and how to work with the billing team to move them.

  5. Compliance, audits & policies

Consent forms, record requests, payer audits, incident handling, and keeping policies current.

  6. Capstone & certification exam

Run a simulated practice for one month: schedule, staff issues, a denial spike and a payer audit. Then pass the written exam.

Good fit for

  • Office managers and front-desk leads ready to run a whole practice

Questions

Before you apply.

Which track should I choose?

If you like talking with people and are new to healthcare, start with Patient Coordinator. If you prefer numbers, claims and solving problems behind the scenes, choose Medical Biller. If you already lead a front desk or a team and want to run a practice, choose Practice Manager. All three share the same core modules, so you can add another track later without repeating them.

Do I need billing experience?

Not for Patient Coordinator or Medical Biller; both start from zero. The Practice Manager track assumes some office or team-lead experience. For every track, you need reliable internet, a computer and a quiet place to take calls.

Is a job guaranteed after I finish?

No. Certification does not guarantee employment. Certified graduates join our hiring pool, and we interview from that pool first when Sharp or one of our client practices needs staff. How many people we place depends on how many client practices we bring on.

How much does it cost?

Founding cohort tuition is $247 for Patient Coordinator, $297 for Medical Biller and $397 for Practice Manager. After the founding cohort it rises to $297, $397 and $497. If Sharp hires you and you complete 90 days, we refund your tuition.

How do scholarships work?

Check the scholarship box on the interest form and tell us about your background. We review requests before each cohort and tell you whether you qualify, and for how much, before you pay anything.

Is this the same as a CPC or CPB certification?

No. Those are national exams from AAPC. The Sharp certificate shows you are trained in our methods for mental health practices. Many graduates go on to take a national exam later.
